About The Burrow

The Burrow is a unique collective of independent stylists. Each artist owns and operates their business in our shared studio space. Each artist is responsible for managing their own bookings, services, payments, questions, comments and concerns.

Within The Burrow’s walls, individuality fuels the soul. Our creators, innovators, and dreamers seek to inspire one another to reach their greatest potential. Every inch of The Burrow showcases the flair and personalities of the inspiring artists that breathe vibrance into our community.

The Burrow was founded to create autonomy within salon workspaces, while fostering a collaborative atmosphere with an emphasis on community. The hope was to put the power in the artists’ hands and provide a safe and comfortable environment where they are free to embrace their eccentricities. We believe that when creatives are encouraged to express themselves, any guest or collaborator who walks through our door will feel at home.

At first glance it may be difficult to see past our dark exterior and bold style, but trust us these walls have stories to tell...

Where New Meets Old

Legend has it that The Burrow’s property was built in the early 1830s as the home to Dr. Erastus F. Cooke’s Apothecary & Drug Store, the first of its kind in the area. Hailing from Oppenheim, New York, Dr. Cooke relocated to Wethersfield, Connecticut to be closer to his wife, Mary, and her family. Dr. Cooke was a visionary who was constantly imagining and crafting wild and radical innovations. Though sometimes he was known to push the envelope with his bright inspired ideas, Dr. Cooke was liked in the community because of his father-in-law. Mary’s father was a prominent and well-respected political figure in the area and served as Towne Clerke.

The 1830s in New England was a period of newly established democracy with a focus on creating new trade routes to the East. Residents dreamt of fresh opportunities and a new independence excited Americans as they continued to expand into the west. Dr. Cooke worked to both develop and produce the necessary chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and remedies needed to be a self-sufficient society. He is also noted to have created a hair pommade in which he sold out of his shop. As he expanded, he became one of the founding members of Eagle Laboratory Inc. which produced chemicals. Dr. Cooke’s entrepreneurial and inventive spirit still lives within the walls of The Burrow and inspires our creatives. The spirit of wellness still radiates throughout the space and Dr. Cooke’s passion vibrates through the foundation reminding us of all that was created here before us.
